Da'wah & Outreach
Sharing the beauty of Islam with our neighbours and community — with wisdom, compassion, and dignity.
Sharing the Gift of Islam
Da'wah — the invitation to Islam — is among the most honourable of acts. It is the tradition of every Prophet, the practice of the Companions, and the responsibility of every Muslim who has been blessed with faith. At Darussalam, we have maintained an active outreach programme for over fifteen years, rooted in the conviction that Islam's message of mercy, justice, and purpose is one that our neighbours, colleagues, and communities deserve to encounter — presented clearly, honestly, and with the warmth it deserves.
Our da'wah work takes many forms: from welcoming enquirers who walk through our doors, to visiting schools and prisons, to hosting open days that invite the wider public inside. We do not believe in high-pressure tactics or confrontational approaches. Our method is the method of the Quran itself — wisdom, beautiful example, and kind dialogue. Whether someone becomes Muslim, develops a more nuanced understanding of Islam, or simply leaves with a positive impression of their Muslim neighbours, we consider that a success.

Embracing Islam — You Are Not Alone
Taking your Shahada is the beginning of a profound and beautiful journey. We know it can also feel overwhelming — there is so much to learn, and it can be hard to know where to start. Darussalam exists to walk alongside you every step of the way. Our New Muslim Support programme provides personalised guidance, community connection, and the practical knowledge you need to live your new faith with confidence and joy.
Everything we offer is free of charge, and you can access as much or as little support as you need. We never put pressure on anyone. Our only motivation is to share what we have been given and to ensure you feel welcomed, valued, and at home.
- One-to-one mentoring with an experienced Muslim guide
- Beginner's course: How to pray, perform wudhu, and fast
- Introduction to the Quran — reading and meaning
- Weekly New Muslim support group (sisters and brothers)
- Practical support: Islamic name choice, family communication
- Connections to Muslim social networks and community events
- Emergency pastoral support — someone to call, anytime
All enquiries are handled in strict confidence. You are under no obligation to attend anything or commit to anything. Simply reach out, and we will respond with warmth and without pressure.
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ
"There is no god worthy of worship except Allah"
The Shahada is the gateway to Islam. If you are ready to take it, or simply wish to understand what it means, we are here to help you take that step with knowledge and sincerity.
Reaching Into Our Community
Our outreach extends well beyond our walls — into schools, prisons, hospitals, and the streets of our city.
School Visits
Our trained da'wah team visits local secondary schools and colleges, delivering RE presentations and Q&A sessions that give young people an authentic, first-hand encounter with Islam. We have reached over 4,000 students since 2012 and receive consistently positive feedback from teaching staff. All volunteers are DBS-checked.
Prison Da'wah
In partnership with Muslim prison chaplains, we provide Islamic literature, Friday prayer support, and pastoral care for Muslim inmates at three local prisons. We also run a reintegration programme for recently released Muslim men, helping them reconnect with the community, find housing, and rebuild their lives on Islamic foundations.
Hospital Chaplaincy
Our volunteer chaplains provide spiritual and emotional support to Muslim patients and their families at two nearby NHS hospitals. We ensure patients have access to Quran recitation, halal food information, prayer direction assistance, and someone from their faith community to speak with during difficult moments.
Street Da'wah
Every Saturday morning, a team of volunteers sets up a da'wah table in the town centre — offering free literature, answering questions, and having respectful conversations with curious members of the public. This visible, accessible presence has been a consistent source of connections with people exploring Islam for the first time.
Open Days & Dialogue Events
We open our doors to everyone — faith, no faith, curious or committed. All are welcome.
Open Day
Our flagship annual event invites hundreds of non-Muslim neighbours, local organisations, schools, and civic leaders to tour the mosque, share food, and ask any question they like. Guided tours, children's activities, and live demonstrations of prayer and Quran recitation make this a genuinely memorable encounter with Muslim life.
