Education & Learning

Nurturing faith, knowledge, and character — from the youngest students to lifelong learners.

Knowledge Is the Foundation of Faith

At Darussalam, we believe that education is not merely an academic pursuit — it is an act of worship. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ declared seeking knowledge obligatory upon every Muslim, and our educational programmes are built on the conviction that well-grounded faith produces confident, compassionate, and purposeful human beings. Since our madrasah opened its doors in 1998, we have educated thousands of students across every age group, and we continue to grow and evolve in response to our community's needs.

Our approach to Islamic education is holistic. We teach Quran, Arabic, and Islamic studies not as isolated subjects but as interconnected strands of a coherent worldview. Our teachers — qualified scholars and experienced educators — bring both academic rigour and pastoral warmth to their work. Whether your child is taking their first steps in learning to read the Quran, or an adult is seeking to deepen their understanding of fiqh and seerah, you will find a programme at Darussalam designed to meet you where you are and take you further.

The Darussalam Madrasah

Our Maktab programme provides structured Islamic education for children and young people aged 5 to 16. Across three academic levels, students progress through a carefully sequenced curriculum that builds Quranic reading fluency, knowledge of Islamic beliefs and practices, Arabic language skills, and a grounded understanding of the Seerah and Prophetic traditions.

We follow a safeguarded, structured timetable and issue termly progress reports. Parents are warmly invited to attend open evenings and to stay in regular contact with class teachers. We pride ourselves on a safe, nurturing learning environment where every child is seen, supported, and encouraged to grow.

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ

"And We have certainly made the Quran easy for remembrance" — Al-Qamar 54:17

Memorisation of the Holy Quran

Full-Time Hifz

Our intensive full-time programme is designed for students aged 8–16 who wish to dedicate themselves entirely to the memorisation of the Quran. Students attend six days a week, covering new portions of the Quran each day under close supervision from our resident Huffaz teachers.

  • Ages 8–16 (boys and girls, separate classes)
  • Duration: 3–4 years depending on ability
  • Daily memorisation, revision, and recitation review
  • Weekly progress reports to parents
  • Islamic studies integrated alongside Hifz

Part-Time Hifz

For students who remain in mainstream school, our part-time programme offers a structured pathway to Hifz over a longer period. Classes run in the evenings and on weekends, enabling students to balance their secular studies with the pursuit of this noble goal.

  • Open to ages 10 and above
  • Duration: 5–8 years (sustained, measured pace)
  • Evening classes Mon, Wed, Fri + Saturday morning
  • Monthly parent–teacher review meetings
  • Suitable for those in full-time mainstream education

Entry Requirements

Prospective Hifz students are required to have completed the Noorani Qaida and be able to read the Quran fluently with basic tajweed. An assessment will be conducted by the Head of Hifz prior to enrolment. We also ask that both the student and their parents attend an orientation meeting so that expectations — on all sides — are clearly understood from the outset. A commitment to the programme, discipline, and parental support at home are as important as raw ability.

Programmes for Adults

Learning does not end at childhood. Our adult programmes cater for beginners and advanced students alike, in a supportive and scholarly environment.

How to Enrol

We welcome applications year-round. Our enrolment process is straightforward and designed to ensure the best possible fit for every student.

01

Submit an Enquiry

Complete our online enquiry form or visit the Education Office in person. Tell us which programme interests you, your child's age and current level, and any questions you have. We aim to respond within two working days.

02

Initial Assessment

For the Madrasah and Hifz programmes, we conduct a brief, informal assessment to understand the student's current level of Quranic reading and Islamic knowledge. This helps us place each student in the right class from the start.

03

Orientation Meeting

Parents and guardians are invited to meet the Education Coordinator and relevant class teacher. We will explain the curriculum, expectations, and safeguarding procedures, and give you the opportunity to ask questions.

04

Complete Registration

Complete the registration form, provide the required documentation (proof of age for Madrasah enrolments), and arrange the first monthly fee payment. A confirmation letter and timetable will be issued within five working days.

05

First Day Induction

On your child's first day, a member of staff will meet them at the entrance, introduce them to their teacher, and settle them into the classroom. We take care to ensure every new student feels welcomed and at ease.

06

Ongoing Support

We monitor each student's progress closely and provide termly written reports. If you have concerns at any point, our door is always open. We believe the relationship between home and madrasah is essential to a student's success.

Our Safeguarding Commitment

The safety and wellbeing of every child and young person in our care is our highest priority. Darussalam operates a comprehensive safeguarding policy in full compliance with statutory guidance. All teaching and support staff undergo enhanced DBS checks before taking up their roles and receive regular safeguarding training. A Designated Safeguarding Lead is on site at all times during educational activities.

If you have a concern about the welfare of a child — whether connected to Darussalam or not — please do not hesitate to speak with our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Sr. Fatima Malik, in confidence. We take every concern seriously and act swiftly.
